Record audio with edrumin 10

Post by lalo »

I want to record audio from Superior Drummer 3 triggered from an edrumin 10, I have an audio interface roland rubix 22 with only 2 ins and 2 outs, I can record midi but now I want to record audio and midi at the same time, my question is how can I get the audio from the computer out to my audio interface? I tried connecting the headphone jack with a Y-Cable to the mic/line inputs but obviously didn't work... I can hear SD3 through the headphones out of the interface but I can't record it... pretty confusing stuff... I guess I need a mixer?

Typically what you would do is run SD3 in a DAW like Reaper. I only suggest Reaper because it's freeish.

You use Reaper to record the MIDI and then after you are done, you render the audio to an audio file.

Perhaps SD3 has its own method to render the audio to a file? I honestly don't know because I also do my recoding in a DAW application.

What Rob said.

Record the MIDI, the 'render' the audio file.

Allows you to fettle with MIDI data and mix it before exporting the audio.

Getting the midi rendered to audio is no problem, SD3 can render it to audio in the tracker part yeah, but I wasn’t clear enough, I want to import a drumless track, playalong to it and record it so I can get the song with my performance, I have logic pro and cubase but I cannot begin to understand how to mix the midi from SD3 and the drumless track to a third audio track with the full song..
I know I could render midi to audio, import the drumless track and them mix them to create the full song but the advantage of recording midi is that you can select the drum set you prefer for the song.

You have all the tools.

One Logic/Cubase track for your drumless song.
One Logic/Cubase instrument track for your SD3 midi.
Record the MIDI.
Render the project.

That's pretty simplified, but that's what you need to do.

Thanks, I got it working, I don’t know why I insisted to create a 3 track if I could just export the project to audio! I just recorded a full song with 2 tracks as you mentioned and render them to a wav song, awesome!

But now the next problem....
I have an ipad mounted to my rack in front of me which I use to watch drum courses, with a module one just plug it to the aux in and can hear the ipad and drums at the same time, but now with the edrumin only, how can I connect the ipad to my audio interface or computer to hear it while I play in SD3? I tried a y-cable stereo to mono connected to the line/mic inputs of my audio interface but it didn’t work.

Use the y cable to connect it to your interface.

Create a third track for the iPad audio.
Turn the track monitoring on.

Yes it works! For some reason I had turned off the monitoring on the audio interface but now back to stereo and I hear everything now, thanks!

And it works also in SD3 standalone, no need for a daw

I use of one these. It's a 4 channel stereo audio mixer.
I use it to combine the output from my audio interface, an iPad, and a metronome and run that into my headphones.
It's cheap but does the job perfectly.
