Input Cabling question MIDI Expression I/O

Post by bblix »

Hi,

I have made a new left hand controller with a joystick and 2 additional pots. All 4 are 10k ohms.

I have read that the inputs are now buffered on the IO model. Does that imply that I have to connect all 4 pots with a dedicated stereo jack cable or is it possible to combine the 4 grounds and power to save cabling?

This is for my Hammond organ and there is not enough space between the keyboard and the "engine room" for round cables. I've used unshielded flat RJ45 cables for other controls and that works.

All MIDI Expression devices have had buffered inputd for the past several years already.

The jacks can definitely share the same ground. I'm not so sure about about the power connection, but I suspect you can. You'll definitely want to have the polarity of the inputs set though (not auto)
