positional sensing help

Hi there,

I know that this is a topic that's had some coverage, but also that it can be specific to an individual's setup, hence my post.

I'm looking for some help in getting this working with a Drum-Tec Pro Snare and Superior Drummer 3.

I'm having a bit of trouble getting relatively consistent readings when trying to set the CC zone in the positional sensing graphic in the edrumin software i.e.

I've settled on the above, but even when playing the drum, no matter what I seem to do either in the edrumin software or in the SD3 settings, I just can't seem to get a gradual progression from center to off-center to edge.

Does anyone have any tips in terms of hardware/software adjustments that I could play around with?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am having the exact same issue with my Drum Tec Pro 3 snare!
The edge sound is also triggered in the center, did not figure this out yet!
Saw a person on the Toontrack site with the same problem.
I will keep you posted!

Greetings Steve

Drum-tec's 3-ply 'real feel' mesh heads are noisy and are known to cause issues with positional sensing on eDRUMin. If you have a 2-ply mesh head, the issue goes away. Alternatively some users report that adding a 25k resistor in series with the piezo helps resolve the issue.

Hi Rob,

I will try a 2 ply mesh head to see if there is a difference.

Thanks Steve

Hi Rob,

Changed to 2-ply meshhead, problem solved!

Thanks Steve

Thanks for the update, that's great to know Steve!

Coincidentally, my 2-ply head just arrived in the last hour. I'll stick it on the drum sometime over the weekend.

Thanks Rob for the tip.

Hi,

I still have to figure out fine tuning it to get what you call gradual progression.

Greetings Steve

You're not going to get perfectly gradual progression. What you're looking for is places on the snare where you can get predicable results. To get perfectly gradual results would require different input circuity about 4ms of scan time. 4ms is a long time to wait.
