Complete NOOB question and yes Im sure its been asked

Post by Wotto »

Hey all

Excuse my lack of search effort :D

Before buying I just want to clarify that I can use the Edrum10 in the following way .....

I have a TD27.....I want to add more toms/ cymbals.
I also use Superior Drummer - not the module sounds.

So if I buy a Edrum10in I can effectively add up to 10 more physical pieces to my kit and each new piece will then send its own midi number out of the Edrum10in to my TD27 module - I connect my Edrum10 via Midi Out to the Midi In or Thru of the Td27 and then I can map these new physical pieces to cymbals/toms/ other bits within a kit in SD3 - yes??

Reason I want clarity is that I looked at the Edrumin10 manual and it appeared that the Drum Module had to send OUT to the Edrumin10 and the Edrum in 10 THEN went into the laptop via USB......WAAAAY back in the past I used a Roland TMC6 to add more pieces to a TD8 module and it worked the way I described in my question above ( expander into module then out ) .....hence Im a bit unsure about the Edrumin10 to laptop connection.

Thanks in advance - flame suit on for those that will say 'just search it'

Yes, you will be able to trigger 10 additional pieces in SD3 that way, but not 10 additional sounds on the TD-27 (Roland doesn't allow it, presumably it isn't capably of the having that many simultaneous voices). Given that you can't get 10 additional sounds on the TD-27 anyway, you don't actually need to connect the two at all. SD3 will happily trigger from both the eDRUMin and Roland USB MIDI ports at the same time.

Cheers Rob for the speedy reply.

Will it matter if I go through a USB hub to get the Edrumin10 into my ( windows) laptop as I would have to due to lack of ports ?

Also normally you need to " tell" SD3 or Ableton where your midi input is coming from and from memory I only get to choose 1 ?

And yeah I just figured if I'm gunna buy a trigger expander I may as well grab the 10 , start with 4 extra bits and leaves room for future "GAS" moments 🤪
