So I've assembled 9 of the hall sensors. They come with the sensor in an enclosure with a piece of double sided foam tape attached to the bottom. You can order one for $15 USD from the following link.

Thanks Rob,

Just ordered - looking forward to testing it out. Will post photos.

UPDATE - just arrived 3/6/2024

UPDATE 2 - Decided to leave my nicely setup DIY in place so I sourced a new "used" Yamaha hi-hat stand for this - will be working on it tomorrow 3/16/24

Ordered as well, also had (and still have) hall effect sensor. And the same issues with hi-hat closure.
I'm using Addictive Drums 2 however (with cc), so no chance for Mr. Bluesguy's solution with "openness transitions" dropdown.
I just want to have setup identical with Rob's to be sure before I "complain". I hoped 2.3.1.20 (with firmware 2.3.1.19) will help, but it did not.
Will keep trying to fix it/tweaking till the package arrives... And after even more 🤣

... let me ask you one question, which bothers me for some time already.

First the scenario:
1. I hit fully open hi-hat
2. Then I close slowly, to avoid chick
3. I reach the end (fully closed), cc 127 is sent to Addictive Drums (I see it arriving there, see screenshot)... but I can still hear the sound of the hi-hat's cymbal (for some time, of course)

Is it normal? Should I configure something differently?
Should edrumin send something else?
... is it the matter/fault of Addictive Drums?

This is Hall Effect sensor build, the one from the manual, powered from edrumin.

Attached screenshots from AD2 and edrumin

It's probably something programmed into Addictive Drummer. One thing you might check is your expression curve on your hihat CC. You're doing much the opposite of what I normally want. Once I get to an almost closed position, I want the pedal CC to change very slowly in order to give me lots of definition in that area. You have things setup so that once it's close to closed, if will jump very quickly to fully closed. Maybe AD sees that quick change and infers that the pedal is being pressed hard and therefore triggers some kind of sound.

Thanks Rob, but I tried with the curve completely switched off as well. Switched off means linear, I guess.
Will play with the curve a bit more then.

Maybe someone using AD2 will check this behavior in the meantime and reply...

Also... looks like it's time to take advantage of the Toontrack's 25% off and buy SD3... Although I suspect this price reduction means new version (SD4?) coming soon.

It's hard to think of any feature SD3 is missing. I'd upgrade if you could change kits with MIDI, but that's about all that's missing for me.

Hi again,

Rob, I followed you advice and bought SD3. But... the problem persists. Tell me, if you hit the open hi-hat and close it slowly, to avoid chick, does it get muted when closed?
I attach my screenshots (I switched off all curves)

Yes, it does. Is that not what you are expecting?

Yes Rob, this is exactly what I am expecting. And what does not happen in my case 😔
I asked this way, because I cannot belive that this is working for you 😆
I guess you cannot help, if you cannot reproduce...
I also updated to 2.3.1.23 from 2.3.1.20. Still the same.
Also here, in SD3, I can see cc127 arriving (one of the screenshots from my last post), so this is probably not related to hall effect sensor...
