Support for electrostatic capacitance touch sensor(s)?

Post by djbclark »

I'm wondering if it is possible and if it is probable electro-static sensors could/will be supported with a software update, in addition to the existing piezos and switches.

This type of sensor is most famously used on high end Roland equipment, but DIYers are also using them in simpler ways, eg muting a drum with your hand just like you would an acoustic.

Cross stick sensor
V-Drums sensor technology lets you use the same playing techniques that you use on an acoustic drum. The latest PDS-140DS digital snare pad has three cross-stick sensors, with an electrostatic capacitance touch system under the head. This means it’s now possible to play a rim shot just by putting your hand on the head. The sensor can even detect how your stick hits the rim, adjusting the sound accordingly.
