MIDI Expression 2.9.3 BETA is available

Post by Rob »

MIDI Expression 2.9.3 BETA is available for testing. If you notice any issues, please reply in this thread and I will address them. I will maintain the links in this post to point to the latest build. Your feedback is much appreciated.

While old (mini-B) MIDI Expression devices are still supported by this version, they will no longer be receiving any new features in this version.

New Features in version 2.9.3
  • Added support for Digitech FS3X / TC Helicon switch 3 (3-button footswitches)
  • Added support for Nord Triple Pedal / StudioLogic SLPD-3 (3 pedal piano sustain)
  • MIDI Transformer can now transform MIDI message types.
  • Added support for 14 bit Control Change messages.
Bug Fixes since version 2.9.2
  • Fixed a possible hardware crash when using MIDI Monitor.
  • Fixed a firmware issue that caused compatibility issues on Linux.
  • Fixed a bug when using a pedal to change the Transformer MIDI Channel.

I've installed build 4, updated the device firmware, and connected an expression pedal. I chose a 14-bit CC, and it does display the 14 bit values on the input editor and the event list. I assume it is converting the MSB and LSB CC's to just show one CC-- (not the pair of CC#'s)?

Just tested with Respiro and it seems to be working well. THANKS!!

Would it be possible to allow switches to transmit 14-bit CC values as well?

For example, if I want a switch to control a resonant filter cutoff, and want to send a value that gives specific note/pitch or toggle between two notes. Could be useful.

It's doable, but to do it properly I would need implement parameter feedback for 14 bit CCs, and that will take some extra work.

Posted build 6.
  • Lots of refactoring to make my code more consistent and easier to maintain over different OSs.
  • Fixed firmware issue that could prevent the Linux control application from working properly.
  • Improved UI performance on Linux.
  • Fixed firmware color could change after factory reset with last couple of builds.
  • Fixed loading snapshot with VST/AU plugin not saving settings on plugin properly.
  • Fixed possible auto polarity sensing issues when unloading the VST/AU plugin.
  • Fixed issue when closing the VSY/AU when standalone control application is running and not inputs are 'activated'.

I installed 2.9.3.8, but in the UPDATE FIRMWARE section it shows as 2.9.3.7.

That's correct. Build 8 didn't include any changes to the firmware.

I tested with my Digitech FS3X and it works great. Nice to be able to get 3 switches from a single TRS (1 port)
