MIDI Expression Quattro with Roland RPU-3 triple pedal

Post by jurasan »

I want to connect Roland RPU-3 triple pedal unit to my Pianoteq Running on Linux. I don't have midi ports on computer, only USB.
Will "MIDI Expression Quattro" be enough for it? Will all the pedals work properly (not only sustain)?

The Quattro supports the RPU-3 fine. Each damper will be detected as an expression pedal giving you variable output for half pedaling, but can also be forced into functioning as a sustain (on / off). I would take a moment first to download an install the control application and make sure it runs on your distribution. If it starts up and says 'Plug in MIDI Expression' you should be good to go.

I've had Pianoteq running for a while, but my pedal unit was connected to digital piano, which is connected to computer. I hate these pedals, so want to user another one, but it's not compatible with the piano, hence the need to connect it directly to pianoteq.

But pianoteq never asks to "Plug in MIDI Expression". It just allows to take input from all the midi inputs, I don't know if it will be correctly identified.

The Quattro will simply appear as a USB MIDI device, much in the same way as your digital piano. The MIDI Expression control application is for configuring the Quattro if the default settings aren't what you want.

I installed it on both Ubuntu and Odroid. It runs on Ubuntu, bud doesn't start on Odroid. Does it write logs somewhere?

When I run it from terminal on Odroid I get an error.

/opt/MIDI_Expression$ ./midiExpression
bash: ./midiExpression: cannot execute binary file: Exec format error

So probably the issue is not with OS but arm64 architecture.
Can it be recompiled for arm64?

I'm not sure. I'll have to look into that.

Maybe try an emulator for the time being. Many people recommend Box86.
